Campbell Graney: Painter & Artist

Bio
Campbell is currently a Studio Arts major at Kutztown University. His focus is primarily in painting and he plans to graduate in Winter 2024. Campbell’s work consists of expressive portraiture, gestured figures, and painterly implications of detail. Though erratic at times, his free flowing execution of his work, creates an authentic and pure portrayal of the psychological aspect of portraiture.

Artist Statement
It seems that no matter how an artist paints another it always seems to end up looking a bit like themselves. This, to Campbell, is a direct representation of seeing yourself in others. Like the pressure built up in a clogged pipe, the need to create and express in a physical manner manifests. Typically for Campbell, the product tends to be portraits of friends, figures from media, and themes of abstract expressionism. If one thing is a constant in Campbell’s works its portraits and self-portraits. Portraiture is so important to Campbell because it focuses on the individual. Individuals are tied to one another by the shared human experience of feeling emotions. Campbell aims to represent the authenticity of a subject, sometimes through satire, but always through the authenticity and dedication from his own values as an artist.
